Prophetic Expectations

“What does it mean to see a picture in your “mind’s eye”? This is like a screen inside your head where you see pictures of things all the time. If I ask you what your house or your car looks like you will probably picture it in your mind’s eye. This is also called your imagination. God gave you an imagination so you could experience His love for you. Do not let the world rob you of using your imagination or seeing God pictures just because of some new age religion. You were created in God’s image and He gave you your imagination for a purpose.” Linda Boone; Intimate Life Lessons: developing the intimacy with God you already have.

Maybe you’ve heard people say that you shouldn’t expect supernatural phenomena like visions, dreams, images or words. You might have even heard it said that those types of God encounters were given to prophets to build the early church, but they are not for today. Or if they are, Holy Spirit only speaks to particular individuals at particular times, but never to regular folks on a regular basis.

In other words doctrine that teaches that the prophetic language of God’s Kingdom is very mystical, very special, and is either not given, or if it is, only to a select few. But when the Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Corinth he exhorted all of them to pursue love and the gift of prophecy. Why? Because both help to express the heart and mind of the Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit. Because together they help to build, edify, and grow you and others up into mature sons and daughters of God.

So in everything strive to love. Passionately seek the gifts of the Spirit, especially the gift of prophecy. You see, a person speaking in an unknown language is not addressing the church because he is really addressing God—those who overhear don’t understand because he is speaking in the Spirit the depths of the mysteries of the Lord. But a person who has the gift of prophecy teaches in a way that builds up the community, draws them near, and comforts them. Those who speak in an unknown language only strengthen themselves, but those who prophesy strengthen the community. While I’d like for you all to be able to speak by the Spirit in unknown languages, my preference would be for you all to prophesy by the Spirit. Those who speak prophetically are God’s mouthpiece and are far more useful to the church than those who speak in exotic languages—unless there is another who interprets so that the community may be strengthened.” 1 Corinthians 14:1-5 (VOICE)

The entire point of the Father sending Holy Spirit to fill the hearts of His people is so that you and I might be able to know and live in all that Abba has given to His Son Jesus; and the Kingdom language of prophecy is just one of those incredible gifts. Whether it’s used to show you something personal about yourself or about someone else, it’s manifestation is always meant as a means by which to draw you into a deeper and more intimate fellowship with God.

What are your prophetic expectations? What are the different ways you imagine the Father sharing his heart and mind about you, yourself and others?

If the language of the Kingdom didn’t have words, what would that be like? How would you communicate with Abba, and He with you?

Before going to your God place, take some time to think about what it would be like to live in a land where no one used words. Where the only language used to communicate was that of pictures, and the Father wanted to send you or someone you know a message. How would He do it? What would it look like?

Later, when you do spend time with Abba, ask Holy Spirit to enlarge your times of intimacy by including the language of prophecy.
